Girls Varsity Lacrosse - (19-20)
1. Pre-Season Overview: We want to first begin by outlining our typical pre-season plan for those new to the program. We’d typically host an interest meeting in September to discuss green/yellow days, required forms, training journals and pre-season leagues, and would begin green/yellow days in October. Currently, the county has only authorized restrictive ‘yellow days’ to be held. Yellow days are conditioning-only sessions, and at this time under county mandates, can only be held with no equipment (e.g. no cones, ladders, etc.)
Given the current situation, we as a coaching staff have decided to not hold any in-person sessions at this time. We will instead provide workouts for players to work through (these will be sent in September), in addition to sending out the week-by-week training journals as we get closer to the conclusion of this year. These packets will lead us into tryouts beginning April 12, 2021. This was not an easy decision for us as a coaching staff, but we all have our own personal reasons for not feeling comfortable running in-person sessions.
2. Team Tryouts and Placements: We’ve received a few emails regarding tryouts and team placements, here is an overview of our process:
A. Anyone interested in trying out is encouraged to do so and prior lacrosse experience is not required
B. Tryouts are held over a 3-day period with team announcements made on the 4th day (this is our typical structure and we’ll notify everyone if this changes as a result of other changes to this season); tryouts will include a combination of lacrosse evaluations and fitness/agility tests, we’ll include specifics around the fitness tests and expectations as we get closer to tryout dates
C. Prior placement on a team does not guarantee placement for the next season, each roster spot is re-evaluated each year and earned
D. Class standing does not dictate team placement (i.e. underclassman are eligible to make Varsity and status as an upperclassman does not guarantee a spot on Varsity)
E. Participation in off-season leagues/training sessions does not guarantee a spot on the final Spring rosters or impact our decisions regarding placement
3. Team Video Calls: We’ll be hosting periodic team calls to stay connected with everyone! These sessions are for the coaches and any player interested in trying out this season. Our first call will be next Wednesday, August 26th from 6:00-6:45pm and we’ll do coach introductions, as well as player introductions, so be prepared to share your name/grade/position. Please keep an eye on your inbox for an email to include details for joining this video call.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions. Also, feel free to send our contact information to anyone who may be interested in trying out this season so we can add them to our distribution list.
All the Best,
Coach P, Coach Gigi and Coach Caitlin
